I took part in a 24 hour startup business competition where over 100 students divided themselves into groups and were tasked with preparing and pitching a business idea to a panel of local investors and consultants. For my groups project we created a company called Move it Move it, an innovative service designed to alleviate the stress and challenges associated with moving, particularly for college students transitioning to and from their accommodations. Recognizing moving as one of life's significant stressors, our service provides a hassle-free, efficient, and affordable solution for students to furnish their living spaces without the burden of traditional moving processes. By enabling users to rent quality furniture for short-term periods, Move it Move it offers a practical alternative to buying and selling furniture, addressing both the need for temporary home comfort and the avoidance of unnecessary expenditure and logistical nightmares.

Move it Move it stands out by offering a two-fold solution: facilitating the easy rental of furniture and providing a convenient way for individuals to relocate unwanted items. Our platform simplifies the process of furnishing a home by allowing users to select from curated packages or individual items that fit their needs and budget. Furthermore, we offer an easy and eco-friendly disposal service for those looking to get rid of furniture, ensuring that items are either rented out again or responsibly recycled, aligning with our commitment to sustainability and community welfare.

Business Model and Strategy

Our business model is rooted in a deep understanding of our target market's needs and behaviors, focusing on affordability, convenience, and sustainability. By sourcing furniture through donations and offering it for rent at competitive prices, we address both the supply and demand sides efficiently. This approach not only helps in building a sustainable inventory of furniture but also in creating a loyal customer base seeking cost-effective and flexible furnishing solutions.

Market Need

The conception of Move it Move it was driven by a clear market need among college students and transient populations for an easier way to make their living spaces feel like home without the high costs and hassle of traditional furniture acquisition and disposal methods. Many students face the dilemma of furnishing living spaces for short durations without wanting to commit to purchasing expensive furniture or dealing with the hassle of reselling or disposing of it later. Our service taps into this need by providing an accessible platform where users can rent furniture for their specific time frame, thereby eliminating the stress and financial strain associated with moving and furnishing a home.
